The Guild was formed in early 2003 by seven founding members and has steadily grown in membership to about 70 artists and patrons in 2009. It is a non-profit group that meets on the third Thursday of every month with meetings alternating between the WideRiver Gallery and the Colonial Beach library. Annual membership dues are $30.
Our_mission_is_to_bring_more_visual_arts_to_the_community_and_offer_educational_opportunities,_while sharing interests and having fun.
The accomplishments of the Guild include establishing and maintaining a Second Friday Art Walk with many businesses and artists participating in these cultural and festive occasions. We even have a golf cart to take patrons around to the venues seasonally.
We have established the Annual Potomac River Regional Art Show, that is a judged show in July. CBAG enlists the help of visiting, well-known art figures to judge the show and award cash prizes. We donate the proceeds from the art show and also from sales of our boxed greeting cards to the Historical Society Museum, the Chamber of Commerce, the elementary and high school art departments for supplies and the Concerned Citizens community center fund under the Colonial Beach Foundation. The guild hosts a Holiday Open House to the public in participation with the local businesses. CBAG sponsors art workshops for the benefit of members, as well as the general public, inviting well-known artists to share their expertise in different mediums, framing and marketing. In the spring, we hold art contests and shows for school-age children in partnership with the Historical Society Museum and cash prizes are given. Other CBAG local community activities include participation in Colonial Beach Market Days and the Boardwalk Arts and Crafts Show in September, with guild members works on display and for sale
There are plans to do much more as we grow and become more and more involved in the community. We have already inspired two art galleries to set up business.
